Winds from Hurricane Milton blew off part of the roof at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, Florida. A northwest portion of the roof of the circular structure was blown off Wednesday night, October 9, 2024. Hurricane Milton made landfall on the west coast of Florida near St. Petersburg at about 8:30 p.m. EDT.

The stadium was being set up as a staging area, and was a pre-planned flood relief and recovery site. Part of the roof blew away, causing significant damage and rainfall inside the stadium, as rescue and/or relief workers were setting up cots and supplies inside the stadium.

The stadium became flooded with heavy rain falling through the opening.

A photograph from a high-rise northwest of the stadium captured the significant damage of the stadium, while lights remain lit inside the stadium.




The stadium, which is home of the Tampa Bay Rays, is located at One Tropicana Drive … at 16th Street between 1st Avenue and 5th Avenue South. The stadium is located about 1.6 miles west of the west shoreline of Tampa Bay, and about 7 miles from the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico.

The eye of Hurricane Milton made landfall between Sarasota and Cape Coral. The track of the hurricane’s eye is forecast to be south of Lakeland, south of St. Cloud and Orlando. The forecast at 12:15 a.m. EDT indicates the eye of the hurricane will enter the Atlantic Ocean near Cocoa Florida, which is between Daytona Beach and Port St. Lucie.
