A second assassination attempt on presidential candidate Donald Trump is reported to have occurred about 1:30 p.m. ET, Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Trump’s golf course, Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach by a male offender with a long gun described as an AK-47 with a scope. The armed offender was located within 500 yards of former President Donald Trump, according to Palm County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw.
The former president was safely secured by US Secret Service agents near the 5th hole at the golf course. US Secret Service agent(s) opened fire on a gunman when they saw a long gun weapon gun barrel in shrubs at the border of the golf course. After four shots were fired, the suspect dropped the weapon and fled in an SUV. A witness that saw the suspect flee, took a picture of the SUV, and gave police the image of the vehicle, including a captured license plate image, while reporting the vehicle was a black Nissan.
The suspect was taken into custody in neighboring Martin County. Law enforcement input the photo information from the witness to a real-time crime center, including the license plate reader (LPR) database. An LPR detected the license plate on I-95 as the vehicle was headed into Martin County, Florida. Martin County Sheriff’s deputies were able to successfully complete a traffic stop and take the suspect into custody. The traffic stop was a specialized traffic using heavy police vehicles, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The traffic stop was apparently a specialized felony traffic stop.
I-95 runs north and south, parallel to Florida’s east coast. Palm Beach County and Martin County are both located between Lake Okeechobee and the Atlantic Ocean. Martin County is located north of Palm Beach County.

If somebody gets into the shrubbery, they’re pretty much out of sight.
— Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the U.S. Secret Service agents fired at a male offender, after he was spotted pointing an AK-style rifle with a scope out of the shrubs, while Trump was on the the golf course. Bradshaw said the gunman also had two backpacks hanging on a fence along with a GoPro camera, and that he was about 400 yards to 500 yards away from Trump and hiding in bushes. As part of security procedures, secret service agents were about one or two holes ahead of the president to clear the location of threats.
Presidential candidate and former president Donald Trump issued a statement around 4PM EST, which read: “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”
The State of Florida will be conducting its own investigation regarding the attempted assassination at Trump International Golf Club.
