Lake County Sheriff’s Crash Investigators are investigating an early Sunday morning serious traffic crash that occurred in Wadsworth.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 4:15 a.m. Sunday, September 15, 2024 to a report of a single-vehicle rollover crash with possible entrapment at Route 41 and Kelly Road in Wadsworth. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a Dodge Ram 1500 with serious damage north of Kelly Road, and a highway light pole down on Route 41 just south of Kelly Road.

Firefighters on arrival reported a vehicle that appeared to have rolled over several times that was on its side.

A second ambulance was requested by 4:22 a.m.

The driver, a 19 year-old man from Kenosha, and a passenger in the vehicle, a 19-year-old man from Kenosha, were trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters and paramedics extricated the men by 4:34 a.m., and both men were transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center. The passenger, who was found unresponsive, sustained life-threatening-injuries and remains in critical condition. The driver sustained minor injuries.

Preliminary investigation shows the Dodge Ram, driven by the 19-year-old man of Kenosha, Wisconsin, was traveling northbound on Route 41, approaching Kelly Road. The driver said he was looking at his GPS and failed to properly negotiate a curve in the roadway. The driver of the Dodge left the roadway and struck a light pole, then drove into a ditch. The vehicle went airborne, struck two trees, then landed on its driver’s side.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.

Route 41 is a 4-lane highway, divided by a concrete Jersey wall with wide concrete shoulders with rumble grooves. The Speed Limit is 50 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images captured August 2023.

The left-hand curve and the intersection is warned on yellow diamond signage for northbound motorists on Route 41.
