Palatine firefighters and paramedics responded to a report of a motorcycle fire in a driveway at 1220 E. Inverrary Lane in Palatine. Crews were updated en route that a townhouse and car was also on fire and the fire department response was upgraded to a working structure fire. The first Palatine Fire Department unit arrived on the scene four minutes after the initial alarm and reported fire showing from the attached garage.
The initial fire crews gained access to the garage by removing the overhead garage door, while other crews deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire. Other crews checked the fire unit and adjoining townhouses for residents and fire extension. The fire was contained to the garage and the exterior of 1220 East Inverrary Lane, and was declared under control at 2:43 a.m. Firefighters continued to check for hidden fire, ventilate smoke, and monitor for toxic gases for some time after that.
No firefighters or occupants were injured in the fire. Due to the quick actions by the Palatine Fire Department, the fire was contained to the attached garage. Damage estimates were not initially available at the time of this release. A fire investigation was completed. The cause of ignition was determined to be the improper disposal of firework debris near combustible materials.

The fire was fought by twenty-three firefighters, staffing four engines, one ladder truck, one rescue squad, and three ambulances, which responded to the scene along with three command officers. In addition to the Palatine Fire Department, an engine crew from the Arlington Heights Fire Department and an ambulance crew from the Buffalo Grove Fire Department assisted at the scene. During the incident, an ambulance from the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District provided coverage for any additional calls. Palatine police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control. Representatives from ComEd and NICOR also assisted during this incident.
Inverrary Lane was closed to traffic during firefighting operations.
