Officials disclosed around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 that three wounded Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies were transported to nearby hospitals, where they were listed in good condition. The deputies were shot at a home in the block of 400 block of Wild Rice Lane, Lost Lake, which is northeast of Dixon, Illinois. The crime scene address has a Dixon address, according to Google Maps, but is located in a gated community known as Lost Nation.




Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies initially responded about 8:39 a.m. Wednesday morning to a report from a family member regarding an individual threatening suicide and homicide at 402 Wild Rice Lane in Dixon, Illinois. Emergency Response Team/SWAT was activated 18 minutes after police arrived on the scene. SWAT activation was logged at 9:18 a.m.

The first call from a law enforcement negotiator was made to the individual at 10:40 a.m.

In excess of fifty phone calls were made to attempt to contact the individual inside the residence.

Additional resources (undescribed) were used to attempt to contact the individual at 11:09 a.m.

At 11:51 a.m. the Emergency Response Team decided to enter the home to check on the well-being of the man, who had not responded to phone calls.

Immediately upon entering the house, deputies were met with gunfire from inside the house.

Around noon Wednesday, June 12, 2024 to a report of multiple people shot near Wild Rice Lane and Tamarack Drive in Lost Nation, Illinois.

Three Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies were shot.

The suspect was also struck by gunfire.

Three ambulances and three medical helicopters were immediately requested to respond to the scene.

All four of the wounded are described having wounds that were initially believed to be non-life-threatening.




The Emergency Response Team consists of law enforcement personnel from the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon City, Byron City; and SWAT Medics from the Rochelle Fire Deparmtent.

Law enforcement assistance was assigned from Lee County Sheriff’s Office (to the south), DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (to the east), Carroll County Sheriff’s Office (to the west), and the Illinois State Police.

Fire/EMS Agencies were assigned from Dixon Rural Fire Department, Dixon Fire Department (City), Oregon Fire Protection District, Mt Morris Fire Protection District, Polo Fire Protection District, and medical helicopters form REACT and OSF HealthCare.

Among the three medical helicopters that were assigned to airlift wounded victims, one helicopter landed in a parking lot. The other two helicopters were diverted to Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital – KSB in Dixon, Illinois.

A witness in the neighborhood reported loud shots fired that sound like a war zone.

Initially, the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office only disclosed that they were involved in a “critical incident.”

The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Illinois State Police conduct the officer-involved shooting investigation.

Preliminary information indicates the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from ISP to assist with an officer-involved shooting investigation in Dixon earlier today. There is no threat to the public at this time. This investigation is active and ongoing, and no additional information will be released at this time.

Lost Nation, Illinois is an unincorporated census-designated place and a private community connected to the Lost Nation Golf course in Ogle County, Illinois. Lost Nation is located about 7.5 miles northeast of Dixon, Illinois, and about 7.5 miles south-southwest of Oregon, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 708.

Dixon is located in Lee County. Lost Nation is located in Ogle County near the border with Lee County.
