Police officers from Schaumburg responded at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024 to a report of shots fired at a townhouse in the block of 1000 Boston Harbor in Schaumburg. Some of the bullets fired struck the townhouse. No other buildings in the area were struck by gunshots, except for the targeted building.
There were no injuries reported Wednesday night.
Following an investigation of the shots and incident, the Schaumburg Police Department arrested one male suspect for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm on March 1, 2024 at 2:15 p.m. The suspect, Jake Mateos, is alleged to have discharged a firearm six times outside of the residence. Four of the discharged rounds struck the home near a bedroom window, according to the Schaumburg Police Deparmtent.
Schaumburg police on Thursday, February 29, 2024 described the suspect as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and a baseball hat. Detectives continued to investigate on scene on Thursday.
During the investigation, no injuries were reported in the days following the shooting. Jake Mateos knows the residents of the home through a friend, according to the Schaumburg Police Department. Mateos was in possession of a 9mm handgun when he was taken into custody.
Mateos was scheduled for detention hearing today, Saturday, March 2, 2024.
