Pro-Palestinian protesters lined up earlier this morning Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 7000 South Harlem Avenue in Bridgeview, and then moved to block the southbound lanes of I-55 and the Harlem Avenue bridge over I-55.
Protesters were walking on the expressway, forcing Illinois State Police to shut down the southbound lanes of I-55, which was backed up from Harlem Avenue to Western Avenue at about 3:50 p.m. Saturday.
Interstate 55 is a major north–south Interstate Highway in the US state of Illinois that runs northeast to southwest from Chicago to St. Louis, Missouri.
Harlem Avenue is located near Mile Post 283.4.
Western Avenue is located about 6.5 miles back from the protest.
Congestion was improving by 4:10 p.m.
