The Lake County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a deceased shooting victim as 20-year-old Willie Wright Jr., of North Chicago. On Thursday, January 11, 2024, an autopsy was completed at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Autopsy results indicate that Mr. Wright Jr. died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Zion responded about 7:31 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2024 to a report of a person shot outside an apartment building in the block of 4200 Barberry Lane in Zion.
Police discovered a male victim, age 20, with multiple gunshot wounds, and determined the scene was secure. Paramedics moved up to assess and treat the gunshot victim. The victim was transported with Advanced Life Support to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased in the emergency room.
The victim was shot with a rifle, according to a police radio alert. A witness saw 11 shell casings on the ground at the scene.
The Zion Police Department’s Investigations Division and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force recovered significant evidence linked to the event in the 4200 block of Barberry Ln and elsewhere. Multiple leads were developed and investigated overnight. Investigators are continuing to work on those leads today, According to the Zion Police Department.
