Police, and then firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded to two locations Saturday morning when a male offender crashed head-on into one motorist on Arlington Heights Road near Interstate 90, and then allegedly battered the motorist involved in the crash. When another motorist arrived to help or intervene — while the first motorist was being battered — that motorist was also allegedly battered by the offender. The offender then stole the second motorist’s vehicle, and fled northbound on Arlington Heights Road.
The offender was described as a male/white suspect with long hair and a beard, and wearing a camouflage jacket, according to a person in traffic that witnessed some of the altercation.
Police discovered the suspect, and a short police pursuit progressed northbound on Arlington Heights Road. The pursuit may have been interrupted for safety reasons, but the offender was discovered later and arrested in the Scarsdale neighborhood at the intersection of Mayfair Road and Park Street.
A neighbor in Scarsdale said police officers had to take the suspect down to the ground at the traffic stop. The offender allegedly was stopped while possessing the stolen vehicle. He was transported to Northwest Community Hospital by Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics.
Police brought the victim to their vehicle that had been stolen — now parked on Mayfair Road just south of Park Street — after the Scarsdale traffic stop. Next, another ambulance was dispatched to Mayfair Road and Park Street for the battered victim, who was suffering from injuries from being battered at the scene of the crash on Arlington Heights Road. The victim was also transported to Northwest Community Hospital by Arlington Height Fire Department paramedics.
An ambulance had also been dispatched to the scene of the crash on Arlington Heights Road near Interstate 90. Initially, it was unknown if the ambulance was dispatched for the first crash victim hit and battered by the offender, or someone else. The crash was located in the northbound lanes of Arlington Heights Road across from the old Elk Grove Township building near Interstate 90.
The offender was hospitalized, and as of Sunday night, it was unknown if the offender was released from the hospital to police custody. The day and time of the defendant’s initial court was not yet known.
It is initially unknown whether this was a road rage incident.
