Lake County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigators are investigating a serious late-night crash that occurred in Long Grove near Arlington Heights, Sunday, October 29, 2023.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Long Grove firefighters and paramedics responded about 11:09 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2023 to a single vehicle crash with injuries on Schaeffer Road north of Lake Cook Road in Long Grove.
Long Grove Fire Battalion 55 on arrival reported one car with heavy damage. Schaeffer Road command requested an additional two ambulances about 11:17 p.m. — firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights and Palatine were assigned to respond to the scene.
A rear-seat passenger, a 19-year-old man of Palatine, sustained critical injuries, including a skull fracture, and was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The male driver was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers, both 20-year-old males, did not initially report any injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver of an Acura ILX was traveling northbound on Schaeffer Road. For an unknown reason the driver, a 22-year-old male of Rolling Meadows, drove off the roadway on the east side of the road. This caused the vehicle to strike a tree and utility pole.
Alcohol and excessive speed appear to be factors in the crash, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team. Schaeffer Road is a narrow two-lane rural road with narrow shoulders. The Speed Limit is 25 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images captured October 2018.
Some Lake County property records show this area as unincorporated Arlington Heights in Lake County.
