Alexis Rodriguez, of Round Lake Beach, has been identified as a teen who was found fatally injured after falling from a backyard fence hours after police shot and killed a male adult who was attacking two women and police officers in the same neighborhood. Initially, no known connection between the incidents has been disclosed — except close proximity and time frame.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2023, to a report of an injured person bleeding in the block of 2000 Evergreen Lane in Round Lake Beach. Callers to 9-1-1 heard a loud crash before finding a teen unresponsive.
Paramedics upon arrival, found the victim, a 17-year-old male, was not conscious and not breathing. Paramedics performed lifesaving measures on the teenager, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the teen appeared to have been climbing the fence in the backyard of his home when he fell. The incident is under investigation by the Round Lake Beach Police Department. The neighborhood where the fall occurred consists of single-family homes on moderate-sized lots. Some of the homes have backyard fences approximately 6 feet tall.
The fatality occurred one block away from the location where police shot and killed an adult male as he attacked two women and police officers with a sledge hammer on Redwood Drive — a little more than 9 hours earlier on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 about 3:15 p.m.
Redwood Drive is the next street west of Evergreen Lane — both incidents in the 2000 block.
The deceased teen was positively identified as Alexis Rodriguez, age 17, of Round Lake Beach. On Thursday, October 26, 2023, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Alexis suffered blunt force injuries of his neck.
