Firefighters and paramedics from Countryside Fire Protection District and police officers from Vernon Hills responded about 12:15 p.m. Monday, September 11, 2023 to a report of a house fire in the block of 1100 Dearborn Lane in Vernon Hills.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered active fire showing from the exterior of a home at the siding of the attached garage. The fire was also showing near the gable and at the peak of the one-story garage roof near the second floor of a 2-story single-family residence.
According to Countryside Fire Protection District, fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire, while simultaneously protection of a next-door neighbor’s house that was sustaining heat damage from flames coming from the siding of main house fire.
No injuries were reported. The original house fire building was deemed uninhabitable by fire command. The Red Cross was notified to assist the residents with temporary housing.
A MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm on Box #41C-20 by 12:23 PM for mutual aid assistance from neighboring communities was activated. Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers were assigned from Mundelein, Libertyville, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, Lake Forest fire departments or fire districts.
The fire is under investigation.
Vernon Hills police officers also provided assistance at the scene.
