CARDINAL NEWS Police Locate BMW Chase Car Connected to Kidnapping, Carjacking in Libertyville
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Libertyville firefighters and paramedics responded about 3:35 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023 to a report of a crash with injuries, and discovered that the incident involved a stolen auto and the abduction of a child that inside the stolen auto. The child was found safe within about 25 minutes, and the vehicle was found a little over 60 minutes later. The status of the suspect is unknown, but may have been identified by law enforcement.
The abduction occurred in the block of 16000 West Buckley Road (Route 137) in unincorporated Libertyville, where homes are located in a wooded area, just south of the Independence Grove Forest Preserve.
When Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Libertyville firefighters and paramedics arrived, they found a woman lying in the driveway of a home with a long driveway. She was treated and transported to a nearby hospital.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office quickly alerted the public on Facebook and Twitter that they were investigating a stolen auto with the abduction of a 2 year-old child. The sheriff’s office was seeking help in locating the stolen auto and the child.
Police were looking for a white 2021 Volkswagen Atlas, and provided the license plate information. The suspect was described as a male “unknown” tall and thin, last seen wearing a light gray zip-up hoodie and a light green COVID-19 style mask.
The 2 year-old child was found safe in Waukegan, by 3:59 p.m.; and the Volkswagen Atlas was located by 3:59 p.m., according to public updates from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office
