The Federal Aviation Administration issued a warning to people flying drones at some North Side Chicago beaches that are under the flight path to O’Hare International Airport.

According to the FAA, an increasing number of drone sighting reports have been received from commercial airline pilots as they make their approach to land at O’Hare International Airport on Chicago’s northwest side.

The FAA warned drone operators that the following beaches are all in the landing flight path for O’Hare Airport, and drones flown these locations must not fly higher than 400 feet off the ground:

Loyola and Hartigan beaches on the Far North Side

Osterman and Lane beaches in Edgewater

Montrose Beach and Harbor in Uptown

Drones that fly above 400 feet near these beaches pose a safety hazard, even if they’re hundreds of feet away from an aircraft, according to the FAA.
