Police, firefighters and paramedics from Zion responded about 9:33 p.m. Thursday, November 24, 2022 to report of a single vehicle crash into a tree near the Ace Hardware store, 2660 Sheridan Road in Zion.
Upon arrival police, firefighters and paramedics discovered a single vehicle crash with a tree and a pole with severe damage, and two people trapped in severely damaged vehicle. The crash did not involved the actual building at the shopping center, according to fire command.
Waukegan firefighters responded with a heavy rescue squad for extrication.
A witness at the scene reported that CPR was administered to one of the victims. Both patients suffered life-threatening injuries.
Both patients were extricated by 10:30 p.m. Apparently the driver was traveling southbound on Sheridan Road approaching 27th Street, but crashed into a light pole and tree near the sidewalk in front of Ace Hardware.
Lake County MCAT (Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team) is assisting Zion Police Department with the investigation.
