Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is blasting a political ad that shows a real-life attack on a woman on Chicago’s North Side. YouTube Tips ⓘ
A video from the People Who Play By The Rules PAC shows a doorbell camera security video of an attack in the Lakeview neighborhood on Chicago’s northside. The video is titled “Lakeview Scream” and is credited to CWBChicago.com (9/4/2022) as the source.
Gov. JB Pritzker says, “It’s a terrible commercial, they’ve chosen a particular crime in which there was a white woman who was the victim and apparently black perpetrators. That’s the ad they want people to see, particularly in the suburbs. That’s part of the entire racial tinge of everything that is being put out by that PAC.”
A statement by the PAC on the YouTube posting of the ad claims that the Paid for by People Who Play By The Rules PAC is not endorsed by any candidate or candidates.
The ad begins, “ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN CHICAGO’S LAKEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD …” and closes with “PRITZKER. LIGHTFOOT. HOW MUCH WORSE DOES IT HAVE TO GET?”

Gov. Pritzker says the ad shows “apparently black perpetrators” but with a Ring camera capturing the crime across at least one front-yard distance away (or at least about 70 feet away), it is not obvious to viewers that the perpetrators are black. Whatever race the offenders were who were involved in the attack, race can’t be determined, or the offenders appear light-skinned or white in some images of rolling video or in still images. There is no obvious impression from the security video that the offenders are black.
The mugging was captured on video on Sunday afternoon, September 4, 2022 when a 45 year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk in the block of 2900 North Seeley Avenue, and was attacked by three males wearing hoodies and masks. The offenders arrived in a black sedan, and robbed the victim while at least one victim displayed a handgun. The three offenders fled southbound on Seeley Avenue in the black sedan, while the woman kept screaming on the sidewalk. The crime occurred in the north end of the block while the woman was walking northbound toward Hamlin Park located at Wellington Avenue and Damen Avenue.
