Crash at Road Construction Site
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Round Lake firefighters and paramedics responded about 6:55 p.m., Wednesday, September 7, 2022 to Route 60 in the area of Wilson Road, near Volo, for a traffic crash with injuries. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and initially located a 44-year-old woman of Volo lying in the roadway, on Route 60 at the scene of a two-vehicle crash.
The 44 year-old female driver of a Hyundai Accent was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical, life-threatening injuries. The driver of a Subaru was treated by paramedics at the scene and released. A passenger in the Subaru, an 18-year-old of Woodstock, was also treated by paramedics at the scene and released.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2015 Hyundai Accent, driven by the Volo woman, was traveling westbound on Route 60. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Hyundai struck a guard rail on the north side of the roadway. This caused the Hyundai to enter the eastbound lanes of traffic and strike a 2018 Subaru Outback, driven by a 68-year-old woman of Wonder Lake.
Traffic crash investigators are working to determine if the driver of the Hyundai was ejected from her vehicle, or exited her vehicle and collapsed following the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
The intersection of Route 60 and Wilson Road is involved in a construction project that includes intersection improvements, roadway widening, culvert extension/replacement, and new traffic signal installation. An advisory for motorists to use caution is in effect due to the roadwork.
