Police, firefighters and paramedics from Huntley responded about 4:18 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2022 to a report of a shooting in the block of 11800 Cape Cod Lane in Huntley. Two people were were struck and wounded by gunfire — a male, age 58, and a male, age 29. Police confirmed that the scene was secured, and then Huntley Fire Protection District paramedics moved up to meet, treat and transported the gunshot victims.
The shooter fled the scene before Huntley police officers arrived. Circumstances are unclear, but apparently Elgin police officers spotted the suspect and were involved in a pursuit that moved from Elgin into Bartlett on West Bartlett Road.
The Village of Bartlett announced at 6:01 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2022 on Facebook that Bartlett police officers were attempting to locate a subject that is at large near West Bartlett Road and Route 25. The subject was described as a Male/Hispanic in his early 20’s wearing a white shirt and black shorts. The Village of Bartlett announced that the male subject at large is considered to be armed and dangerous. The announcement stated that the male subject was last seen northbound on foot from Miles Parkway near West Bartlett Road and Route 25, and announced there will be heavy police presence in the area. Police advised residents in Bartlett to close their garage doors and stay inside their residences until further notice. Sixty-three minutes had passed since an armed shooting suspect entered the Village of Bartlett, and in fact, two suspects were involved.
The Village of Bartlett asked residents to call 9-1-1 “if you observe the suspect” and stated, “DO NOT APPROACH HIM.”
In the timeline, the initial message from the Village of Bartlett did not indicate why the subjects were being sought, and did not indicate whether they were suspects in a crime. In the first hour, the message was not updated to include that the suspects stole or hijacked a white box truck. Instead there was only information that there was only one suspect on foot.
The Village of Bartlett Police Department Twitter account provided summary information of the incident at 9:49 p.m., and then the general Village of Bartlett Facebook page provided the updated information summary at 9:53 p.m. The summary information provided that an aggravated vehicular hijacking allegedly was committed by two males in Bartlett, and the two suspects happen to be persons of interest in a shooting in Huntley, Illinois.
According to the Bartlett Police Department, the department is investigating an alleged aggravated vehicular hijacking in the 200 block of Miles Parkway. Bartlett Police Department alleged a male black suspect and a male white suspect, both in their mid-20s approached a victim who was sitting inside a 2000 Dodge Ram work vehicle and threatened him with what was believed to be a firearm. The male black suspect then stole the vehicle and fled the scene. The male white suspect fled on foot and was last seen heading northbound from the scene.
According to Bartlett police, the male black suspect was described as 5’07”, 175 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black tank top, light colored shorts, and light colored shoes. The male white suspect was described as 6’01”, 150 lbs. with brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts, and light colored shoes. Both suspects are persons of interest in an ongoing investigation in Huntley, Illinois. Apparently in confusion the actual male black suspect was described as a male Hispanic.
Bartlett police officers conducted an extensive search of the area with multiple law enforcement agencies, police drones, and police K-9 units, but were unable to locate the male suspect who fled on foot. The stolen vehicle was later recovered in Addison, Illinois.

Apparently the pursuit by Elgin police officers caught the Bartlett Police Department off guard because a Bartlett Police Officer had to ask why Elgin police were chasing a vehicle in Bartlett.
The activity began in Bartlett about 4:58 p.m. when Elgin police were in pursuit eastbound on West Bartlett Road into Bartlett. Elgin police were in pursuit of a vehicle and a suspect or suspects believed to be involved in the shooting in Huntley.
Initially it was known that a suspect or suspects may have crashed a car in a field and then got into a box truck — stealing the box truck or hijacking the truck. Police were immediately looking for the stolen box truck, now described as a Dodge Ram work vehicle. Initially it was unknown if one or both suspects got into the Dodge Ram.
Hanover Park police officers, Bartlett police officers and Hanover Park police officers became involved while assisting Elgin police officers.
INITIALLY KNOWN …
Multiple police agencies in the west suburbs are also searching for a suspect accused of aggravated discharge of a firearm “shots fired” … described as a male/black suspect, age 27, 5’7″ 180 LBS wearing a white tank top, gray shorts, and missing one tennis shoe. This was also believed to be a suspect in the Huntley shooting call.
A box truck (which was the Dodge Ram) was reported to be traveling the wrong way eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-290 from York Road at about 5:28 p.m., and was recovered at Lake Street and McNair Avenue in Addison Township by about 6:49 p.m. Illinois State Police were involved in spotting the vehicle and securing it at the Lake Street and McNair Avenue crime scene.
The truck was located by 7:44 p.m., but there was no confirmation that a suspect was located at 7:44 p.m. K-9 units were dispatched to the area of Lake Street and McNair in Addison Township.
Apparently one suspect was at large on foot in Bartlett, and the other suspect was at large on foot in Addison Township near the area of Lake Street and McNair Avenue.
Late Monday night, police did not announce that either suspect had been captured.
