A 31 year-old man was found dead after police responded to a report of shots fired Friday night in Streamwood. Kwemi Hardwick, age 31, of Streamwood was identified as the victim of the fatal shooting.
Police and firefighters, and paramedics from Streamwood responded about 10:42 p.m. Friday, April 22 2022 to a report of shots fired at an apartment/townhouse in the block of 0-99 Victoria Lane in Streamwood.
Police secured the scene and declared a crime scene with one gunshot victim discovered at the location. The victim was confirmed deceased by one paramedic from fire department crews that responded to the scene. Streamwood police secured the crime scene and immediately began an investigation with assistance of the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT).
Friday night and Saturday there was initially no official confirmation that a shooting death had occurred. Although neighbors heard shots fired, there was no information available to the public regarding a suspect or the circumstances connected to the shooting. At least one neighbor complained that they were worried whether the incident was secured, and that there was no notification from the police department.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the death was a homicide by multiple gunshot wounds on Sunday, April 24, 2022.
Streamwood Police Department confirmed Sunday that an acquaintance of Kwemi Hardwick is in police custody, and stated investigators believe the shooting is an isolated event that is no longer a threat to the public.
