Police officers from Mount Prospect responded about 11:02 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022 to a report of an aggravated vehicular hijacking in the block of 1800 North Burning Bush Lane in Mount Prospect.
The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was approached by an unknown offender as she exited her white Hyundai Santa Fe she had parked in her driveway. The offender pointed a black colored handgun at the victim and demanded her purse and car keys, which she gave to the offender. The victim then ran inside her home and called 911 to report the incident. The victim described that there was a gray SUV parked in front of her house and a second unknown subject standing near the rear of her vehicle just before the carjacking.
The victim watched an offender drive away with her white colored Hyundai Santa Fe after the offender drove across her front lawn of her home. The Hyundai Santa Fe was last seen headed northbound on Burning Bush Lane toward Old Willow Road/Seminole Lane.
Video surveillance from a nearby residence showed the victim’s Hyundai and the gray SUV headed eastbound on Seminole Lane away from the scene.
The offender, who was holding the handgun, was described as a black male, approximately 5’5” tall, weighing 175 LBS. He was wearing a black and white colored hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
The second offender was described as a male wearing an unknown colored hooded sweatshirt. The stolen vehicle is a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe bearing Illinois registration ZU39486. The offenders should be considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached, according to the Mount Prospect Police Department.
The victim was not injured during this incident.
