On February 25, 2022, at approximately 7:45 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a multi-vehicle traffic crash with injuries on Route 60 east of St. Mary’s Road, in Mettawa. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located three vehicles with heavy damage.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2019 Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 21-year-old man of Highland Park, was traveling westbound on Route 60, just east of St. Mary’s Road. For an unknown reason, possibly weather related, the driver of the Hyundai lost control. The Hyundai crossed into the eastbound lanes of traffic and was struck by an eastbound 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 24-year-old woman of Mundelein. The Jeep Grand Cherokee then struck an eastbound Jeep Compass, driven by a 60-year-old man of Highwood.
The driver of the Hyundai was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical, life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep Compass was transported to Lake Forest Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
