Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 8:29 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2021 to a report of a house fire in the block of 1000 South Highland Avenue in Arlington Heights.
The fire was knocked by 8:42 p.m. by an interior crew. A hand line was brought to the front door, but firefighters apparently were able to knock the fire with at least one fire extinguisher. The fire possibly involved a space heater and a mattress.
Firefighters immediately went to work to clear burned debris from a basement or lower level bedroom, and to ventilate the home to clear out smoke.
The house fire at a split-level home may have been only a contents fire that did not affect the building structure. Firefighters likely prevented the fire from igniting the structure.
Rolling Meadows firefighters responded with a Rescue Squad and a Ladder Truck as part of an automatic assignment to the scene.
Air temperature at 7:51 p.m. was 4°F with a wind chill of -9°F and winds NW at 8 MPH, according to the NWS Chicago station at O’Hare International Airport.
The information in this article is an early report published before any summary information was confirmed or released by police or fire authorities.
