The Lake County Sheriff’s Office released information regarding a homicide on Saturday, November 27, 2021, reporting that at approximately 2:10 p.m. Gurnee Police Officers responded to a parking lot in the block of 6100 block of Grand Avenue (Gurnee Mills) for reports of a gunshot victim. Gurnee Police Officers and Paramedics arrived and located the man in a parking lot on the northeast side of the property.
Preliminary information indicates that a 26 year-old man of Zion, was shot in the parking lot. After being shot, a Good Samaritan provided first-aid until police officers and paramedics arrived. The man was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition. The man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased just before 7:00 p.m.
The offender(s) involved in the shooting fled from the scene prior to the arrival of police officers.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office scheduled an autopsy for the man on Monday, November 29, 2021.

Earlier Saturday, CARDINAL NEWS reported that police, firefighters and paramedics from Gurnee responded about 2:06 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 to a report of a shooting in the parking lot near Portillo’s, 6102 Grand Avenue at Gurnee Mills in Gurnee, Illinois. At least one 9-1-1 caller reported 8 to 10 shots were fired with one person down in the parking lot.
The scene was secured by 2:13 p.m. so that paramedics could approach the victim to provide medical treatment. The patient was immediately transported by Gurnee Fire Department paramedics to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center, and was listed in critical condition.
Gurnee Police set up a large perimeter around the parking lot, which is between to Gurnee Mills Entrance F and Entrance G at the northeast corner.
A witness reported that the Lake County Major Crime Task Force Criminal Investigations Unit was assigned to the scene.
