Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Palatine responded about 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2021 to an Activated Fire Alarm at an apartment building at 925 North Sterling Avenue in Palatine. Northwest Central Dispatch System 9-1-1 also received a call that someone was running down the hallway yelling that there was a fire, and upgraded the call to a confirmed fire response by 5:03 p.m.
Firefighters on Engine 81 arrived to find smoke showing from one corner of the 2-story apartment building and upgraded the call to a Working Fire (Code 4) by 5:04 p.m. Engine 81’s crew reported there was smoke showing from the front/right corner of the building, and that they were off with a skid load. Firefighters led out with a hose line. Also, an activated sprinkler system may have helped control the spread of the fire.
Firefighters reported the fire was knocked by 5:11 p.m., and loss stopped by 5:18 p.m. Also, firefighters were working to ventilate the interior of the building by about 5:18 p.m.
Initially there were no injuries reported.
