O’HARE FORECAST …
Today: Cloudy early, then gradual clearing, with a high near 51. West wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 21. Blustery, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
Monday: Sunny, with a high near 35. West northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 22. West wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph.
Most areas of north central and northeast Illinois will see a period of decreasing clouds into late afternoon and mostly sunny skies by 3:00 p.m. before higher clouds increase from the west. These higher clouds will likely catch up to a persistent corridor of mid level clouds pivoting eastward across northwest Indiana so late day sun will likely be more filtered there. Southwest winds will diminish through the evening with some areas going light and variable into the early overnight hours (Arlington Heights will have gusty wind all night 25 to 15 mph).
Cloud cover will continue to increase as mid level ascent increases from the west ahead of an approaching trough which will offset the weakening winds and keeping overnight lows in the mid to upper 30s. The hourly forecast shows cloud cover under 14% overnight Sunday/Monday and all day Monday. Warm ascent will be best focused south of I-80 and east of I-55 toward daybreak in conjunction with one embedded wave in the westerly larger scale flow, bringing chances for rain showers for those areas. Areas further north will see a lower chance for a few showers in conjunction another wave ahead of a larger scale upper trough but overall rain chances are a bit lower north of I-80/west of I-55 than we previously forecast. Southwesterly winds will keep milder air in place with highs in the upper 40s to about 50 by early afternoon but temps will begin to cool from the northwest as winds turn westerly and colder air spreads in. Have therefore incorporated cooling temps during the mid and late afternoon for most areas, several hours ahead of what would occur on a typical day. Wind speeds will steadily increase through the afternoon with 25 to 30 mph gusts across most of the area by late day before further increases occur during the evening.
DEW
Very light dew on grass and vehicles with Dew Point Depression values of 5 to 6°F and mostly cloudy skies. Also some light drizzle early morning.
Weather Radar shows light precipitation moving east across northern Illinois with all precipitation east of the area over Lake Michigan by 9:45 a.m.
