Schaumburg Police Department announced Monday, November 15, 2021 that at approximately 3:10 p.m., Schaumburg Police Detectives arrested a 17-year-old male suspect involved in the September 28, 2021, fatal stabbing of Manuel Porties on the 600 block of Sturnbridge Lane. The suspect was arrested at his residence without incident and brought to the Schaumburg Police Department. The Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) approved one count of First Degree Murder (Class X Felony).
While initially felony charges were denied, because of insufficient evidence at that time, the Schaumburg Police Investigations Division worked closely with the CCSAO to continue the investigation and bring new evidence forth.

The 17 year-old male suspect will be transported to the 3rd District Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows for a bond hearing on Tuesday, November 16th, 2021, at 1:30pm.

Initial Response to Stabbing Emergency
Schaumburg police responded about 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021 to a 911 call for help regarding a disturbance involving two subjects engaged in a physical altercation in the block of 600 Sturnbridge Lane. Upon arrival, police discovered a stabbing victim at the scene, and learned that a 17 year-old male suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers. The victim, Manuel T. Porties, Jr., an 18 year-old resident of Elgin, was discovered on scene suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Schaumburg police and paramedics performed life-saving measures on scene, according to the Schaumburg Police Department. While undergoing CPR and Advanced Life Support treatment, the victim was transported by Schaumburg Fire Department paramedics to AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
A death investigation was initiated by the Schaumburg Police Investigations Division. During the investigation, the 17 year-old suspect was located and taken into custody by 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021, but he was released until he was arrested again on Monday, November 15, 2021.
Immediately after the stabbing, the suspect was reported to have fled in a black 2008 Hyundai Elantra, and police were searching for the suspect and vehicle (the suspect was initially reported connected to a black 2011 Hyundai Sonata).
The suspect wanted for investigation of a homicide was described as a male/Hispanic, age 17, 5’6″ 120 LBS or thin build with long black hair, brown eyes, wearing a white T-shirt, black pants and white shoes. The suspect was reported to have been armed with a knife. Cellphone video evidence from the scene showed a male suspect armed with a knife in his right, and involved in a fight with stabbing victim Manuel T. Porties, Jr. The suspect in the video with the knife was wearing a white T-shirt with black pants hanging below his hips, a white belt on the hanging pants, and white shoes.
The facts of the case were under review by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Initially, murder charges were not filed, and an Unlawful Use of a Weapon charge by Schaumburg Police Department was initially not approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. The current status of the Unlawful Use of Weapon charge is unknown.
According to a Schaumburg Police Department statement, the stabbing incident appeared to have been an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the public.
