Schaumburg Police Participate in Illinois Department Of Transportation Safety Grant Around St. Patrick’s Day

... #ad▼

During the period of March 14, 2013 through March 17, 2013, the Schaumburg Police Department will be conducting the St. Patrick’s Day Enforcement Campaign of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s 2012/2013 Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). This project will be running in conjunction with the national “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” campaign.

Officers working the enforcement campaign will be assigned to patrol throughout the Village of Schaumburg, addressing occupant restraint, speed laws and DUI laws. In addition, officers will be working DUI initiatives. The officers will be sent out on saturation patrol and they will man a DUI/Safety Checkpoint, with the goal of reducing the number of impaired drivers on our roadways. Officers working these details will be hired back on an overtime basis so this will not interfere with normal police operations. The officers will utilize a “zero tolerance” approach to anyone disobeying the state seat belt/child restraint and DUI laws.

By participating in this grant, it is the Schaumburg Police Department’s goal to reduce traffic crash injuries and fatalities by concentrating enforcement efforts on occupant restraint violations, speeding violations and impaired driving.

  1. I hope they get enough arrests and convictions to justify the total waste of resources they’ll be using- even with a grant. You Drink and Drive, We Win! lol
