Cook County Sheriff’s Police, and firefighters and paramedics from North Maine Fire Protection District responded about 11:15 a.m. Sunday, August 1, 2021 to a report of an attempted robbery with shots fired and a person possibly injured at a parking lot of the Glen Oaks Commons apartment complex in the block of 9700 Dee Road in unincorporated Maine Township near Des Plaines.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Cook County Sheriff’s deputies responded approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2021 to a report of an attempted armed robbery in the block of 9700 North Dee Road in unincorporated Maine Township. Upon arrival, officers learned that a male offender in a vehicle brandished a handgun at a 33-year-old man and demanded his items. The victim did not comply with the demand and fled on foot. The offender fired his weapon multiple times. Witnesses in the area said they hear six to eight shots fired.
The victim was uninjured and declined medical attention by the North Maine Fire Department.
A witness in the area described the shooter as a male black wearing a white tank top who was last seen fleeing from the scene northbound on Dee Road.
The investigation is ongoing. Photographs were taken of the crime scene, and police perimeter tape was taken down after about 90 minutes of on scene investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Cook County Sheriff’s Police Detectives at 708-865-4896.
