Unity22 was at about 40,000 feet by 10:00 a.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021. The Launch Point scheduled to be about 10:26 a.m. CDT showed a “level off” altitude of about 46,300 feet at the launch point.
This article posted less than a minute before Launch Point of the successful mission. The live stream on YouTube was about one minute delayed from the live television broadcast from cable networks. Over 700,000 people were connected to the live stream at the time of the Launch Point of Unity22 when it separated from VMS Eve.
The Virgin Galactic YouTube live stream was also a public relation/marketing project for Virgin Galactic.
Virgin Galactic’s “Unity 22” is known as a suborbital rocket-powered space plane. The takeoff rollout of VMS Eve, which is a carrier mothership for Virgin Galactic and launch platform for SpaceShipTwo-based Virgin SpaceShips (Unity22), was about 9:42 a.m. CDT. VMS Eve was built by Scaled Composites for Virgin Galactic. Scaled Composites, also known as Scaled, is an American aerospace company founded in 1982 by Burt Rutan and is currently owned by Northrop Grumman with headquarters in the Mojave, California. The “VMS” prefix stands for “Virgin MotherShip” … VMS Eve is named after Evette Branson, Richard Branson’s mother.
Altitude was 150,000 feet by 10:26 a.m. CDT.
Apogee altitude was anticipated to be about 270,000 feet, but apogee altitude was about 280,000 feet at 10:28 a.m. CDT — Unity22 reached the altitude of 282,773 feet (86,189 m) on T+2:38.
About 10 minutes after the Launch Point, the altitude was descending through 21,000 feet.
The landing was about 14 minutes after the Launch Point time when Unity22 landed on the same runway (Runway 34/16) where takeoff occurred. The rollout takeoff occurred on Runaway 34. The landing occurred on Runway 34.
