Tornado sirens in the Mount Prospect and Elk Grove area were activated about 1:05 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021, but the activation was apparently a test. The Arlington Heights Police Department desk received several calls inquiring about the sirens. The police were informed that some type of test was underway.
There was no National Weather Service Tornado Warning activated for the Chicago northwest suburbs at around 1:10 p.m.

Coincidentally, the test was performed while radar indicated thunderstorms in northern Illinois; however, there were no Tornado Watches or Warnings at the time of the test, and there are were no Severe Thunderstorm Watches or Warnings. The National Weather Service has posted a Hazardous Weather Outlook for today with “significant risk of thunderstorms indicated this afternoon and tonight.
A thunderstorm with heavy rain passed over O’Hare beginning about 1:35 p.m. Thursday, but no Severe Thunderstorm Warning activated connected to the thunderstorm as of 1:45 p.m.
The test may have been performed because of a recent failure of sirens to activate in Elk Grove Village and parts of Mount Prospect on Sunday night, June 20, 2021 — the same night that separate Tornado Warnings were connected to a destructive tornado that struck Naperville, Woodridge, Darien, Burr Ridge and Willow Springs.
