Burglary Suspect Enters Open Garage in Arlington Heights; Suspect’s Vehicle Caught on Video
Arlington Heights police officers responded about 10:02 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2021 to a report of a burglary in progress that was interrupted by the homeowner victim near Douglas Avenue and Hawthorne Street in Arlington Heights. A security camera in the neighborhood caught the image of the suspect’s vehicle backing into a neighbor’s driveway to turn around toward the victim’s home, and then captured the image of the suspect and vehicle fleeing westbound on Hawthorne Street from the victim’s home.
The suspect was described as a male/white about age 35, with a mustache and dark hair, and wearing jeans. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a black 4-door sedan, possibly a black Hyundai Accent Limited. The black sedan had silver trim at the bottom of the front and rear, driver and passenger side windows. The vehicle also possibly had silver door handles. The wheel covers were silver or gray. The vehicle is initially assessed to be a 2017 to 2021 model Hyundai Accent Limited or Hyundai Elantra.
At least one security camera in the neighborhood caught the image of the suspect’s vehicle — possibly a black Hyundai Accent Limited — backing into a neighbor’s driveway to turn back to the victim’s home, and then fleeing the scene after the burglar was interrupted by the victim.
Before the alleged burglary attempt, the suspect was westbound on Hawthorne Street in the black vehicle, and apparently noticed an open garage door near Hawthorne Street and Douglas Avenue. The suspect then stopped and backed into a neighboring driveway on Hawthorne Street at about 9:55:56 a.m. — to turn around and head back to the open garage.
The burglary suspect then pulled into the burglary victim’s driveway, parked his vehicle, walked into the open garage, and checked a vehicle parked inside the garage. The homeowner interrupted the burglary and chased the suspect down the driveway. The suspect got in his black vehicle and fled westbound. Initially, it was unknown whether the burglary suspect took anything. The suspect was only in the garage for about 2 minutes or less.
After the driver/burglary suspect was chased out of the garage by the homeowner, his image with the vehicle was captured by 9:58:15 westbound on Hawthorne Street while fleeing the scene.
Arlington Heights police processed the burglary scene, and put out an alert for patrol officers to be on the lookout for the described vehicle and suspect.
