Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded about 3:56 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 to a report of an outside fire in the block of 700 North Stephen Drive Palatine.
Palatine Fire Department Battalion 8 on arrival reported flames showing from the backyard and upgraded the call to a Working Fire by 4:01 p.m. Investigation of the backyard showed power lines down with pine trees on fire with some charring on a garage wall nearby.
Firefighters put water from a protective hose line on the garage. A downed live power prevented firefighters from putting water on the fire in the pine trees until ComEd’s arrival to de-energize the power lines. A tree limb took down a power line, which was also located down on another property.
The fire was declared out by 4:15 p.m. ComEd was on the scene by 4:15 p.m. Some Palatine firefighters began to leave the scene about 4:22 p.m.
