Including today, according to the National Weather Service, Chicago has had measurable snow statistics from O’Hare International Airport on nine consecutive days (Feb. 8-Feb. 16, 2021). The measurable snow ties the record for consecutive days with measurable snow in the city, previously set on February 3-11, 2018.
Total snowfall amounts since Sunday evening at local climate sites included a total of 17.7 inches near Midway International Airport due to the heavy lake effect snow that combined with the winter storm snow.
The winter storm with enhanced lake effect snow produced 15-20 inches of snowfall in areas of Cook County near Lake Michigan, land east of O’Hare International Airport and land between O’Hare and Midway (>18″ not specifically report yet). The heaviest snow was just to the east of O’Hare (Chicago’s official climate site), but total snowfall at O’Hare International Airport was much lower (7.5″) than locations just a few miles east.
