Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Elk Grove Village responded about 12:33 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2020 to a report of a natural gas leak near the intersection of Busse Road and Oakton Street in Elk Grove Village.
Firefighters on arrival discovered that a digging crew severed a gas line near the intersection. A warming bus was assigned to the scene, and firefighters connected a standby water supply in case the gas ignited.
Nicor arrived on the scene by about 12:55 p.m. to begin work to repair the severed gas line.
According to the National Weather Service Office at O’Hare International Airport observations at 12:51 p.m., the wind was from the North at 5 MPH, and Air Temperature was 14°F. The Dew Point was -6°F and the Wind Chill was 6°F.
