The Village of Schaumburg announced Thursday afternoon that it sought and received the full resignations of three police officers arrested earlier this month on multiple felony drug charges.
When the officers were arrested on January 16, 2013, the Village of Schaumburg immediately placed them on paid administrative leave until determination could be made whether the police officers would be charged and remain incarcerated. The Village of Schaumburg also began its own internal investigation to determine the validity of the allegations and take the appropriate action.
Based upon information uncovered during the Village of Schaumburg investigation last week, the officers’ leave status was changed from “paid” to “unpaid administrative leave.”
Matthew Hudak, one of the officers arrested, resigned on January 22, 2013. Wednesday, January 29, 2013, the Village of Schaumburg secured the resignations of the two remaining police officers, John Cichy and Terrance O’Brien.
“The fact that these three individuals are no longer members of the Schaumburg Police Department is good news for our residents and for the honest, law abiding officers that are working in our community every day. Based on the information obtained during the Village’s own investigation, we are pleased to accept their resignations.”
— Schaumburg Village Manager Ken Fritz
The Village of Schauburg reports that despite these resignations, the internal investigation will continue in order to gather as much information as possible about the actions of these former police officers, and The Village of Schaumburg will continue to assist federal and county agencies as the criminal investigation proceeds.
