A woman was shot in the neck about 1:45 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. ET Wednesday, January 6, 2021 inside the United States Capitol. The announcement of her death was announced by several media sources about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Law enforcement officials confirmed her death, but did not initially identify the woman.
The circumstances of the shooting were not initially reported. A video on Twitter captured the sound of a single gunshot. The woman was lowered to the floor while people helped her. She seemed to be speaking as blood ran from her nose and mouth. She lost consciousness on the floor of the US Capitol building, and someone said she was gone.
Later, MSNBC broadcast a video showing paramedics rushing her past a camera. One paramedic was administering CPR. Another paramedic was squeezing an AMBU-BAG to deliver air and oxygen through a bloodied endotracheal tube inserted in her mouth.
