Controversial Chicago priest Father Michael Pfleger has been asked to step away from his ministry at Saint Sabina Church following a child sexual abuse allegation from more than 40 years ago, according to the Archdiocese of Chicago.
According to a letter sent from Cardinal Blase Cupich to the St. Sabina community on Tuesday January 5, 2020, Father Pfleger has been accused of sexual abuse of a minor from more than 40 years ago, and that the allegation has been reported to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
Father Michael Pfleger has been the pastor of St. Sabina Catholic Church, located in Auburn-Gresham, since 1981.
Cardinal Cupich said Father Pfleger has agreed to fully cooperate while the allegations are being investigated.
