Paramedics arrived to find Frank Tereza lying in darkness on Barrington Road, just south of Bode Road. They quickly worked to assess his injuries and stabilize his legs and his vital signs.
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Hoffman Estates responded about 6:25 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020 to a report that two pedestrians were hit by a vehicle on Barrington Road south of Bode Road in Hoffman Estates.
The first fire crew on arrival reported two people injured with one person down in the roadway just south of the intersection.
The initial report was that two people were pushing a car and that the two pedestrians struck by a car. The second person initially refused medical transportation.
Two ambulances responded to the scene.
The paramedic crew caring for Frank Tereza immediately declared they were treating a “Level 1 Trauma” and transported Tereza to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Upon arrival at the emergency department, trauma specialists determined that the serious injuries involving one of Tereza’s legs required amputation. His other leg is also seriously injured, and as of Wednesday morning was also being treated and watched carefully for the possible necessity of amputation, as well.
Tereza’s cousin set up a gofundme account “Frank’s Fight” to cover medical expenses and loss of income. A goal of $25,000 will help cover some medical bills, and help their family respond to the loss of income especially during the holiday season.
“Anyone who knows Frank knows he will be strong through this new chapter in his life, and be as loving and caring for others as always. While continuing to put others ahead of himself. This is a time when, although he will never ask for it, we can help him and his family out.”
