According to the National Weather Service Chicago, a very impressive low-level jet is present just off the surface. Overnight AMDAR aircraft (Aircraft Meteorological DAta Relay use of existing aircraft in flight) continue to report winds of around 65 kts (75 mph) at around 3,000 feet aloft. With continued gusty winds overnight, temperatures have remained pretty homogeneous and caused a fairly warm baseline of 50°F beginning the warm-up between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.
FIRE RISK DISCUSSION
Stronger wind gusts are expected today compared to Wednesday, especially for areas south and east of I-55 where gusts of 45 to 50 mph are forecast by late this morning. While dewpoints will increase compared to Wednesday, temperatures are expected to be quite a bit warmer as well, resulting in afternoon RH values
falling into the 30-40 percent range. Locally lower values of 25-30 percent will be possible south and east of I-55.— NWS Chicago
Weather Radar in northeast Illinois is clear.
