Watch a Rachael Ray Show presentation with Rachael & John showing what’s left of their home after their devastating house fire on August 9, 2020.
In a 10 minute video, Rachael Ray and husband John Cusimano described becoming aware of the fire, rushing to grab some valuables, recognizing the danger and evacuation, and then watching the house burn and burn. They shared much of the active fire video at the home of Rachael Ray and John Cusimano captured by “Hot Shots Fire Video via TMX.news” on August 9, 2020 in Lake Luzerne, New York. The fire started about 7:30 p.m. before sunset, but continued into the dark of night. A man passing by on an ATV had alerted the couple that the roof was on fire.
Rachael Ray surveyed the damaged home with a fire investigator the following morning while it was still smoldering. Rachael’s video shows the bedroom with a completely burnt off roof, showing a clear blue sky. Ironically, Rachael Ray is the first female member of the local fire board, and had experienced being in controlled training structure fires. The bedroom showed the most damage with piles of ash. They also showed the damaged involved with the bathroom, dressing area, and library upstairs, and then showed the entry way, kitchen, dining room, living room and guest wing.
The fire was caused by creosote build up in the chimney, according to Rachael Ray. The creosote ignited in the chimney, and an ember that fell on the roof apparently ignited the roof, which spread to much of the home. The house was less than 15 years-old.
Rachael described both John and Rachael having waves of emotion when they realized or became aware that specific sentimental property was lost.
A lot of notebooks, letters, music books and photos were destroyed, but the most important thing was that they were able to rescue their dog “Bella Boo Blue.”
