Minutes before a pilot made an unexpected landing of a single-engine aircraft on Quentin Road in Palatine on Thursday evening, September 17, 2020, the pilot was attempting to approach Chicago Executive Airport in Prospect Heights and Wheeling to make an emergency landing. Prospect Heights and Wheeling firefighters were heading to standby at Chicago Executive Airport when the Cessna 177RG Cardinal RG made an emergency crash-landing on Quentin Road — possibly along a path from about Northwest Highway to Colfax Street.
Palatine firefighters responded to the crash-landing at Quentin Road and Colfax Street in Palatine at about 6:12 p.m., and the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District and Wheeling Fire Department response to standby at Chicago Executive Airport was terminated by 6:15 p.m.
The emergency landing site was located about 8 miles west of Chicago Executive Airport.
Fries Towing & Recovery crews were working on removing the aircraft Thursday night.
