Chicago police said a man is in custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of an employee at the Wicker Park Walgreens (Mike Lowe/ WGN News).
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Chicago responded about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, September 6, 2020 after an unknown offender stabbed a Walgreens employee multiple times in the block of 1300 North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood.
The male offender fled the scene before police arrived.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the 32-year-old female victim was an employee at Walgreens, and was working in the store when the stabbing occurred. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police did not initially release a description of the offender; however, by 11:00 p.m. Sunday Chicago police arrested a suspect.
On Monday, police released the identity of the victim as 32-year-old Olga Calderon, who is the mother of a 3-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl.
Another employee found the victim.
Walgreens issued the following statement …
“We are very saddened to learn of this tragic incident, and extend our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of our team member. The safety of our customers and team members is our top priority, and we’re continuing to work with local authorities in their investigation. We are also making counseling and other resources available to our other store team members at this location.”

No other injuries were reported, and no items were reported stolen from Walgreens.
