Police from Kenosha and standby tactical teams in armored vehicles — originally from outside of the City of Kenosha — responded about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday August 25 2020 to a report that people were shot in the riot in the area of 63rd Street and Sheridan Road in Kenosha. Two of the three people shot were killed. There are at least four graphic videos that partially piece together what happened at two shooting scenes late Tuesday night.

Initially it is unknown who initiated the shooting — a random shooter instigating conflict with rioters, or a member of armed groups with the stated goal of protecting property in Kenosha acting in self-defense, or some other offender.

The incident involved two shooting scenes — the first on the northwest corner of 63rd Street and Sheridan Road near the southeast corner of the Car Source building, and the second in the middle of Sheridan Road near 61st Street (north of the first scene).

People were suddenly running to get away when several shots were fired at the first scene. Minutes later another number of shots (possibly 3 shots) were fired, and then a third time about 10 shots were fired.

UPDATE: Two shot dead, one shot and wounded.

At the first scene, one male/white was shot in the head and killed — at 63rd Street and Sheridan Road at the corner of the Car Source building. A male with a long gun wearing an olive shirt and dark pants is at this first shooting scene, but he doesn’t appear (on video available) to have shot the man in the head. There are about eight shots heard at this seen, but it is difficult to determine whether the man in the olive shirt fired any of these shots. In the mob there were people yelling he was the shooter, and there were people yelling he was not the shooter.

As CJ Halliburton is running south on Sheridan Road toward the sound of the gunfire at 63rd Street and Sheridan Road, the same male/white with an Olive-colored shirt and dark pants and a baseball cap on backwards jogs past CJ Halliburton away from the first shooting scene, heading northbound on Sheridan Road. He crosses paths with CJ Halliburton on Sheridan Road between 61st Street and 62nd Street. CJ Halliburton turns around to follow him northbound on Sheridan Road. The armed man in the Olive-colored shirt falls or is pushed or tripped, and starts firing his long gun at people that are attacking him wile he’s seated on the street.

There were about three or four shots fired by the man in the olive shirt when the man that was shot in the chest and the man shot in the arm were hit by gunfire in the middle of Sheridan Road. There were also about 10 shots fired off in the distance about the same time, which means there were other shooters of unknown intentionsor engagements. Then there were about eight shots fired closer to the scene after the two were wounded and incapacitated.

One male/white was shot in the chest and killed on Sheridan Road just north of 61st Street near the Shady Lawn Apartments sign — allegedly by the male/white with the olive shirt and dark pants. The man in the olive shirt was being attacked by a mob, as he was accused by the mob of being the first shooter. The man who was shot in the chest, ran a few steps, and dropped dead in the street. He had attempted to grab the barrel of the rifle, but it slipped through his hands just before he was shot.

The second wounded man was a male/white, possibly volunteering as a medic among the rioters. He was shot in the upper arm just above his elbow, destroying much of his lower right biceps muscle and bone near the elbow. He too was allegedly shot by the male/white shooter in the olive shirt and dark pants. The man in the olive-colored shirt shot the man (wearing a medic backpack and a baseball cap with the word ‘PARAMEDIC’ in all caps) in the upper arm seconds after he shot the man in the chest. The medic, who ran back southbound on Sheridan Road while holding his injured arm and screaming, was also possibly carrying a handgun in his right hand when he was shot. Apparently he managed to keep holding the handgun with the hand of his injured arm. Just after 11:57 elapsed time in the CJ Halliburton video (the top video on the linked page) you can hear CJ Halliburton say, “Hey, there is a loaded handgun in the roadway you need to take that off the street right now.” That gun is believed to be the handgun that the medic was holding in his right hand, and the location where the gun remained is the location where a tourniquet was applied to the medic’s arm, and the location where the tactical officers removed him from the scene.

It appeared that citizens handled that handgun before officials secured it as evidence, even though the tactical officers were a short distance while securing the scene and while evacuating the two wounded men from the shooting scene.

Immediately following the incident there was also a report that a fourth gunshot victim walked into a Kenosha Police Station, but this was not verified.

Immediately at least one of the victims in the crowd was reported to have been shot in the chest. Other rioters or bystanders came to his aid as one person started CPR on the victim, but tactical officers quickly scooped him up and transferred him into the back of an armored police vehicle. He was transported to Froedtert South (Kenosha Medical Center) — less than a block east of the shooting scene — where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses reported a suspect was running southbound, and fired shots into the crowd. However, the second video shows a male with a long gun who fell to the street when protesters attacked him. The second video from the link above shows the male shooting a rifle at people who looked as though they were attempting to rush him or disarm him.

In the first video from the link above, the shooter is shown wearing and olive-colored shirt and dark pants, jogging slowly past the camera man northbound on Sheridan Road from the direction of the original shots fired. A mob is chasing him, claiming he is the shooter, and yelling “that’s the shooter.” Another male in the mob says something about “beating him up”. The second video starts with the fallen armed male seated on Sheridan Road with the long gun, firing his weapon at the mob that is trying to stop him and grab his gun.

The two videos captured the second shooting scene from a perspective of opposite ends of the street. A third video on social media shows graphic closeup of the effort help the man with the gunshot wound to the head. A fourth graphic video shows a closeup view of the trauma suffered to the man’s biceps and elbow area.

Witnesses said the suspects had backpacks, and police possibly had two suspects in custody for investigation with a third suspect at large.

Suspect descriptions were being gathered by 12:15 a.m. Wednesday. There were possibly three total suspects immediately after the shooting.

A crowd was already at the intersection of 63rd Street and Sheridan Road after cars had been set on fire at the Car Source pre-owned car lot. Several independent media streamers and stringers were also at the location at the time of the shooting.

At 12:30 a.m. a few cars were still burning near the shooting scene.

The protected shooting scene is located in and near the southwest corner of the Car Source pre-driven auto sales lot on 63rd Street just west of Sheridan Road.
