Developing thunderstorms and regenerating thunderstorm cells weakened as they cross into northwest Cook County about 8:30 p.m. Sunday July 26, 2020. Rain in Arlington Heights and nearby northwest suburbs will likely be 0.5 inch or less from 8:30 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Monday morning. Some areas west of the Chicago metropolitan area reported about 1.25 inch of rain.
The storms developed ahead of a surface cold front pushing northwest to southeast. The storms passed through McHenry County and most of Lake County, Illinois from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Arlington Heights and nearby northwest suburbs reported light rain around 8:30 p.m.
The high at the NWS station at O’Hare International Airport was 96°F Sunday. Monday’s high is forecast to be 85°F at 4:00 p.m. and Monday’s Heat Index high is forecast to be 88°F at 2:00 p.m.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) shows thunderstorms moving southeast in a band from southeast Lake County Illinois to northeast Bureau County at 8:40 p.m.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between midnight and 1am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. West southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
