Garfield Park refers to the neighborhoods of East Garfield Park and West Garfield Park — each neighborhood is one of 77 designated community areas in Chicago. The two neighborhoods are on Chicago’s west side, where the City of Chicago is five neighborhoods wide. Garfield Park, including the Garfield Park Conservatory, is an urban park between West Garfield Park and East Garfield Park, and is actually located in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. The area is one of the most violent and dangerous areas in Chicago, and is the site of many gang member gun battles. On September 8, 2015 police began to find a dismembered toddler over the weekend after a citizen reported something suspicious in the Garfield Park Lagoon.
The Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) runs through the south side of both neighborhoods. The Garfield Park area is about 26 miles from 10 Picton Road in Roselle, and is about a 29-minute trip.
The east border of the East Garfield Park neighborhood is 4,000 feet west of the United Center and Malcom X College.
