McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and Marengo Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:49 p.m. Friday July 10, 2020 to a report of a vehicle on its roof and on fire on the shoulder at South Coral Road and West Coral Road.

McHenry County Sheriff’s deputy on the scene reported the vehicle was fully engulfed with fire.

The first fire crew on arrival reported a vehicle upside down on its roof fully involved. No extrication was required, and the driver of the rolled car apparently escaped and fled the scene.

Once the fire was extinguished, the vehicle was determined to be a pickup truck. The driver of the 2003 S-10 pickup was apparently southbound on South Coral Road when the vehicle crash occurred.

According to news photographer Alex Vucha on the scene overnight, officials said the driver of an overnight fiery rollover crash near Marengo was still missing Saturday morning. McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies spent several hours overnight canvassing the area for the driver who they believed fled on foot after the crash. McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies searched the area for any possible crash victims with a K-9 unit and a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera.

Police officers from Marengo Police Department assisted with the search.
