Police and firefighter/paramedics from Niles responded about 6:10 p.m. Friday July 10, 2020 to a report of a serious crash with multiple injuries near EZ Pantry at 8208 Oakton Street.
There was no entrapment, according to police. The crash was located near
Firefighters on arrival reported heavy damage involving multiple cars with one car smoking. Two ambulances were initially assigned from Niles, and third ambulance was assigned about 6:19 p.m. None of the injuries were initially believed to be life-threatening.
Firefighter/paramedics from Park Ridge and Des Plaines assisted Niles firefighter/paramedics. At least three patients were transported to an area hospital. A fourth ambulance was also dispatched from Des Plaines Fire Department.
Early investigation determined driver of a Jetta was speeding westbound on Oakton Street and entered the eastbound lanes, and multiple vehicles were involved in the resulting crash. The identity of the driver was not released, but the driver was described as a 34 year-old male from Des Plaines.
A total of six vehicles were damaged.
