Police and firefighter/paramedics from Gurnee responded about 12:30a.m. Sunday June 21, 2020 to a report of shots fired and that someone was yelling for help at an apartment complex in the block of 4300 McClure Avenue in Gurnee.
Gurnee police officers found a 23 year-old victim down on the grass with a gunshot wound to the back. Police officers immediately helped the victim with first aid while paramedics were en route. The gunshot victim, a resident of Gurnee, was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center. The victim’s injuries did not initially appear to be life-threatening.
Police are searching for the shooter, who fled before police arrived at the scene. No description of the offender was initially released.
The initial investigation shows the victim and an acquaintance met in the parking lot of the apartment complex near the victim’s apartment building. The acquaintance turned out to be a shooter. Shell casings were recovered near the victim.
Gurnee Police Department said the shooting appears to be “isolated” and “there is no threat to the public.” The crime is not considered random because the victim and shooter know each other.
Gurnee Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact the police department at 847-599-7000. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Lake County Crime Stoppers at lakecountycrimestoppers.com or 847-662-2222.
