Police and firefighter/paramedics from Mundelein, and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 12:55 p.m. Thursday May 28, 2020 to a report of shots fired in the area of Lake Street (Route 45) and Hawley Street near Walgreens.
Police officers on arrival quickly discovered an adult male in the area who was shot and gravely wounded, according to Mundelein Police Department. The victim was transported to an area Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center by Mundelein Fire Department firefighter/paramedics where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
Preliminary investigation suggests the victim and the suspect were acquainted. Based on information currently known, it appears the victim arrived in a parking lot at 345 North Lake Street to meet with the suspect, for some type of exchange. The suspect was initially inside of a vehicle before exiting the passenger side and shooting the victim. After the shooting, the suspect, who was a passenger, fled on foot, and the driver of that vehicle fled the scene.
Based on the circumstances the victim appears to have been specifically targeted and this was not a random act of violence. The crime scene tape perimeter was primarily at the parking lot north of the Walgreens.
No police officers were involved in this shooting, according to Mundelein Police Department. Initially, no descriptions of the shooter, the driver or the vehicle connected to the vehicle and shooter were released by Mundelein Police Department.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was requested to assist in the investigation. The shooting remains under investigation by Mundelein Police and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
Any citizen with information about the shooting is encouraged to call police investigators at 847-968-4600 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at 847-662-2222.
