A line of showers and thunderstorms moved across Chicagoland this evening, bringing a second round of heavy rain to Chicagoland on Sunday May 17, 2020, and the third round in three days.
Very heavy rainfall, with near zero visibility occurred during the second line of storms. Arlington Heights received 1 inch of rain in the first line of storms overnight and early Sunday, and 1.5625 inches in the second line of storm Sunday evening for a total of 2.5625 inches. This rainfall followed a total of 3.6875 inches that fell late Thursday night and overnight into Friday morning at about 5:00 a.m.
Rainfall amounts in excess of 1 inch in 15 minutes were reported in some areas of Chicagoland. In the rainfall periods, numerous reports of flooded roadways with stranded motorists, flooded basements were also reported.
